According to national statistics, more than a fifth of Arkansans have a disability. Almost everyone
knows someone with a disability. Still, many individuals with disabilities remain mostly in the shadows
– out-of-sight, out-of-mind and disadvantaged. That’s especially true of individuals with developmental
disabilities. The DD Council’s mission to change that dynamic. Working within the framework
established by PL 106-402 as administered by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities
(ADD), DDC strives to make certain that individuals with disabilities enjoy full participation in
every aspect of their community and their state. In pursuit of this goal, the Council and its staff
work with numerous state and federal government agencies and not-for-profit organizations to
increase educational, employment, health benefits and social opportunities for individuals with
developmental disabilities.
